Meadow cutting and foraging

A busy day ahead, starting with Wild Acres in the morning. The grassland has been mostly mown now, and the clippings removed so it looks great. I took the brush cutter to do a strip alongside the fence and in between the trees, so the tractor can finish the job.

The goats are also getting on well with the scrubbier end, so all in all, it should look even better next year as more species start to come through.

Cherie prepared another delicious lunch which smelt good as soon as the ingredients started cooking.

In the afternoon, I went to the library for the second session this week of Dursley Code Club. They are booked out, although one person with two places has consistently not turned up so we removed them from future bookings. Everyone coded pretty much until the end today, making good progress on their projects.

Straight after, I headed over to Fromebridge to support a foraging and fermenting event. Rob Gould, who is the Cotswold Forager, was hosting and I was supporting with some information about the reserve for the participants.

We headed out along the reserve hedgerows and got information about nettles, hawthorn and other plants that can be foraged at this time of year. When we got to occupation bridge, I gave a short talk on the history of the project and what we were currently up to with the water vole translocation.

We then headed into the orchard to pick the windfall fruit. Unfortunately the blackberries were not too good at the moment.

Darkness fell around 7.30 as we were making our way back to the car park. The others continued their course inside, but I headed back home for the night.
