Improving river health
Double river duty this morning, first with Tony at Ebley for the regular riverfly monitor and then checking the rafts on the river Cam afterwards.
The river levels were not too bad, and the flow rate was manageable. I did the three minute kick sample and Tony did the one minute hand sample.
We very encouraged straight away to find a giant mayfly. The poor results of the last couple of months following a pollution event seemed to be turning around.
In the end, we recorded a score of seven, which pushes the site back to where we were in the spring. We were pretty happy to record that, as it may not be possible to get in the water next month depending on the levels.
Then I headed over to the rafts. Only two to check today, because the third has upturned and not been fixed yet. No signs of anything really, which was a bit disappointing.
In the afternoon, I headed over to the library for the Dursley Code Club, where there was a full house of 8 again. The monday club are all doing some pretty advanced projects, coding javascript games onto an html canvas element. I’m pretty impressed with how resilient they are at getting this to work. The tutorial we’re following is not the best, and they have to do quite a bit of trial and error to get anything to work.
