Third year restoration
We’ve been restoring a lovely 15 acre site with Glorious Grasslands for the last three seasons and the results of previous interventions are really pleasing to see when we go back each time.
It was pretty much a year ago since we last visited, when we found the site completely submerged. Fortunately it was dry today and also a beautiful, sunny day to work in. My main task was to remove a couple more scrub patches, and mow any encroachments in previously restored areas.
One area that was very pleasing to see was a prominent south facing bank that three years ago was full of scrub and thorns.
We spent a couple of sessions back then really knocking that out, and today we could see high quality grassland in it’s place.
At mid morning break, we were joined by Jane who’s recovering from an operation and unable to join us on work parties. She bought along her delicious cake though and it was good to catch up with everyone.
One area that greatly improved today was a steep bank on the edge of a copse. This was worked on in previous years, but today it was possible to completely remove the scrub and expose a south facing bowl area that can serve as a butterfly bank.
