A village in a valley, covered in frost. Barn full of hay in the foreground

New year valley walk

It’s been quite a few days since I was outside, so feeling a bit of cabin fever when I got up. It was a cold, crisp day so perfect for a 4 mile walk to stretch the legs and look at the winter vegetation.

I decided on a high, circular route, which traversed a valley and woodland edge. I saw literally no-one the whole time, except returning to the village.

The going underfoot was straightforward, the hard ground frost had got rid of the mud paths forming during December in parts of this route.

Quite a few fallen trees on the higher path in the woods. A few of them looked like elm, but it was hard to tell.

Overall, about 1.5 hours and felt very refreshed. I then spent the rest of the day pottering about and making another batch of bread.

I also found out today that the equipment we had ordered for the Dursley Code Club had finally arrived in the library. I had almost given up that it would ever get ordered and the funding would be pulled. But this is excellent news, so I will go to the library on Tuesday to start unpacking and configuring the kit, ready for the new term.
